I first heard about Watchdog Early Learning and Development Centre through a TV program about food! What does food have to do with an early learning and development centre, you may ask: well, the owners (also the founders of Watchdog) of Leonidas Chocolates, which you can find at malls such as IFC, Ocean Centre, donate all their profit from the sales of their chocolates to fund this meaningful charitable organization providing early intervention and education for Hong Kong’s developmentally delayed children between the ages of birth and six. So now, you have a reason to eat as much chocolates as you like without feeling guilty about anything! www.watchdog.org.hk |

Nipple confusion. Colic. BPA. These are just a few of the worries that new parents have with bottle feeding their child. Having just won the Medical Design Excellence Award 2008, the Adiri Natural Nursers are the only bottles on the market with nipples truly shaped like a mother's breast. It is made from soft polycarbonate-free and bisphenol-A free materials, and has a unique Petal™ vent helps reduce colic. On top of that, the Adiri Natural Nurser also looks cool! No wonder celebrities J. Lo, Christina Aguilera, Nicole Richie, Halle Berry and Matthew McConaughey have all been using this bottle for their little ones. www.adiri.com |

I don’t usually let my baby Nana watch TV, but recently, during the Buddha Festival, she managed to get hold of our remote and switched on the TV to Baby First TV. The programs on this channel are designed for babies, developing language, feelings, imagination etc. So, if you must let your baby watch TV, then perhaps this might be the channel to choose. www.babyfirsttv.com |

I don't think there are any mum's in Hong Kong not worried about the pollution and the effect it may or may not have on our children. One of our baby group is actually trying to do something about it. If you want to check out her group it is www.cleartheair.org.hk. The page is full of useful information about the environment generally. |

As first time mums in a town where breastfeeding (especially in public) is not very common, I don't think we would have managed to continue without the help of the La Leche League. This is an international voluntary association, but we found the Hong Kong group to be particularly informative and supportive. If you have any queries they will help you answer them, including good and bad drugs during breast feeding, and baby friendly places in Hong Kong. You can find out more about them on www.lllhk.org |

I am sure we are not the only ones whose hearts were wrenched at the news of so many children dying in the recent Sichuan Earthquake. I know that the aid is getting there faster than it is to Burma after the cyclone, but thought sticking in the Red Cross link may help some of us be more active and lend a hand. the www.redcross.org.hk has appeals for both disasters. |
